Store credit without the notebook
Many shops already let regulars take goods and pay later. The trouble is the notebook: pages go missing and amounts get disputed. Duka Credit keeps every purchase on credit, every repayment and every due date, and reminds customers by SMS.
On every plan. Switch it on in your settings.
Duka Credit
Duka Credit is Zawadi's store credit book for Kenyan shops. You set a credit limit for each trusted customer, record what they take on credit, split it into instalments and get repayments confirmed. Customers see what they owe on their phone and get SMS reminders before each payment is due.
What you can do
- See what each customer owes, what they can still use and when the next payment is due.
- Customers see their balance, instalments and statement in the Zawadi app and on the web.
- A customer can mark an instalment as paid; you confirm it or waive it.
- Reminders go out by SMS at 9am, two days before an instalment is due.
- Overdue credit is flagged on your dashboard.

How it works
-
Set a limit
Switch on Duka Credit in your settings, then give each trusted customer a credit limit.
-
Record and split
Record goods taken on credit, and split the amount into instalments with due dates if you like.
-
Get paid on time
Customers get an SMS reminder before each instalment is due. Record repayments as they come in, and they're applied to the oldest instalment first.
Example
A butchery and a regular family
A butchery gives the Otieno family a KES 10,000 limit. They take KES 6,000 of meat for a family event, split into two instalments due on the next two paydays. Two days before each, they get an SMS reminder.
Questions
Duka Credit questions
Is Duka Credit included in my plan?
Yes, on every plan. It's off until you switch it on in your settings, because not every shop gives credit.
Who decides the credit limit?
You do, customer by customer. A customer can't take more on credit than the limit you set.
What if a customer pays part of what they owe?
Record the repayment and Zawadi applies it to the oldest instalment first. The customer gets an SMS confirming the payment.
